Harvey Stein presents Movimento, images from his travels in Italy

Harvey Stein, an accomplished professional photographer and faculty member at the International Center for Photography, brings to the club his series called Movimento, a long-term project based on his travels in Italy over the years. This project, focusing on movement, is an example of how you can take travel photography beyond the simple documentation of places you've been and things you've seen, and focus on something in particular that fascinates you and draws your images together.

I must add that having taken one of his classes, I am very impressed by Harvey, his teaching and his work. Many professional photographers do an amazing job of making their subjects look beautiful, but Harvey's singular focus is on truthfully depicting the character of the person or scene that he sees through his own eyes. And to make a career of photography while staying true to this approach is something very impressive indeed.

2. Sharing and critique

Whether you're a member or a visitor, bring something to share. Find out what others see in your work, what people like best, and how you can improve. If you bring prints, print 'em big -- 8x10 is OK but 13x19 is better! -- so everyone can see! If you'd rather share electronic images, you can do that too. We'll have a projector and laptop at the meeting so you can show 'em off big and bright. (See Tips for Sharing and Critique.)
