Artist's Statement
America isn't a country, it's a group of continents that extends from Canada to Argentina. And with AMERICAS, I aim to assemble an imaginative collection of images representing people and places from throughout the Western hemisphere. Rather than simply documenting easily identifiable visuals, I have spent years creating stories and indulging fantasies — obsessing on small details in countries from north to south. The result is a series of compelling, bold images that invite the viewer to guess meanings and invent stories to explain the pairings. Americas is part of an on-going project that I hope to turn into a book or exhibit. This is a street scene from Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
