Robert Murphy
Biography
A native of Oxford, Mississippi, I grew up in the South and Midwest but became a New Yorker in 1988. I photographed furniture for catalogs for several years before turning to careers in financial news, law, and law enforcement. I travel in Latin America whenever possible, especially Mexico and, over the last year, Colombia.

Artist's Statement
Chocó is a province on Colombia's Pacific Coast with Afro-Colombian and indigenous populations; beautiful desolate beaches; 400 inches of rain annually; migrating whales; orchids and poison frogs; soldiers, guerillas, paramilitaries, and drug traffickers -- and in the seaside village of El Valle near Bahía Solano, a host of friendly and photogenic children. Here are three photos from a series taken there in November 2008. Las dedico a Carlos Vásquez Reza, mi lindo peluche caleño.
